Meet Dr. Emily Eccles

Compassionate therapy for meaningful change, grounded in science, curiosity, and care.

I'm Dr. Emily Eccles, a licensed clinical psychologist based in Santa Barbara, California (CA#PSY33571). I work with adults navigating anxiety, OCD, trauma, and life transitions, especially those who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from a sense of direction in their lives. I offer both in person therapy and secure remote sessions for clients across California.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence based care. I primarily draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). These approaches can help people relate to difficult thoughts and emotions in a new way, develop self compassion, and move toward a life that feels more aligned with what matters most to them.

What Therapy Looks Like

Sessions with me are active, reflective, and tailored to you. We might work with mindfulness practices, guided imagery, or practical strategies for setting boundaries, facing fears, and reconnecting with parts of yourself that have felt distant or shut down. My goal is to help you feel more steady, more self aware, and more able to respond to life with intention.

Many clients share that over time they feel more emotionally grounded and more confident navigating challenges. The difficulties themselves may not disappear, but your relationship with them can change in meaningful ways.

A Bit More About Me

Outside of my clinical work, I care deeply about animal rescue and rehabilitation. Spending time with animals has shaped the way I think about care, patience, and connection. I’m continually inspired by the quiet ways animals communicate safety, trust, and presence.

My doctoral research focused on developing ethical guidelines for incorporating animals into therapeutic settings. That work grew out of my belief that relationships with animals can support emotional healing and deepen our sense of compassion for ourselves and others.
